Saskatoon – Each year, 4-H Saskatchewan awards scholarships to outstanding senior 4-H members from across the province, to assist them in their post-secondary education. “Every year, we receive numerous application and we are always impressed with the quality of applications,” Executive Director Cera Youngson said. “The 4-H Saskatchewan Scholarship Selection Committee had difficulties narrowing it down. These 4-H members are both leaders in their communities and excel academically. We are excited to see what the future holds for each of them.” The scholarships provide an incredible opportunity for 4-H members and Youngson is thankful for the support the organization receives. “There are many amazing sponsors and individual supporters, who we are extremely grateful for,” she said. “Through their support, we were able to award close to $30,000 to our deserving members because of our supporters.” Congratulations to the following members, who were awarded a 4-H Saskatchewan Scholarship in 2020: Entrepreneurial Scholarship for 4-H Members ($3,000)

Thank-you to everyone who submitted their 2018-19 4-H year record books in the 2019/2020 Provincial Record Book Competition! This competition showcases the hard work and dedication that you give to your record book and the 4-H program. Saskatchewan – 4-H Saskatchewan is excited to announce the recipients of the Journey to the Future Sustainability Grant, supported by Nutrien. The $2,000 grand prize will go to the Burnham 4-H Club to help with their Bee Project. The club will be purchasing bees and hives, as well as bee keeping equipment and seeds to naturalize the surrounding habitat. The 4-H members will make various items from the bees and will then sell their products, using the proceeds to fund other projects and support various charitable organizations. “Congratulations to the recipients of the ‘Journey to the Future Sustainability Grant’ and thank you to all those who applied,” Rose Lecky, Senior Manager of Community Relations & Investments for Nutrien said. “Nutrien is proud to partner with 4-H Saskatchewan to help bring ideas to life and make real positive impacts in our communities.” There were also three clubs and districts, which will receive $1,000 each for their projects. They include:
“We are grateful to Nutrien for supporting our 4-H clubs and districts, and the great work they do in their communities,” said Executive Director Cera Youngson. “They help make it possible for our members to Learn To Do By Doing and show off their leadership skills in their club, community, country and the world.” This grant program required the club or district to have members complete the Journey 2050, Farmers 2050, Watershed Detective, and/or Watershed Explorer games and then tell us how they could apply what they learned from these games to better their club, their community, their country, or the world. We had 17 teams from all over Saskatchewan compete for the title of Provincial Champions. Games started Friday night with all of the senior teams playing as well as two junior teams. Teams were back at it early Saturday morning after the Opening Ceremonies and hearing some words from distinguished guests from the Battlefords area. After a full day of competition on Saturday, the Provincial 4-H Curling Banquet was held at the WDM. We had a great supper and were joined by special guest speaker, 4-H alumni and previous Scotties competitor, Taryn Holtby. Our participants enjoyed a dance social, before the final games on Sunday. Congratulations to the winning teams from Provincial 4-H Curling! The end results are as follows; In the Senior category the first place winners are St. Walburg 4-H Club from District 38 in the North West Region. In second place, Claribank Multiple 4-H Club from District 9 in the South West Region and third place, Tisdale 4-H Beef Club from District 26 in the North East Region. Rounding out the Juniors, in first place winners are, Reno Multiple 4-H Club from District 10 in the South West Region, in second place, Canwood 4-H Light Horse Club from District 33 in the North West Region and Third place, Alameda 4-H Beef Club from District 41 in the South East Region. Thank you to all the teams that travelled near and far to compete at this amazing event and a special thank you to the hardworking hosting committee of District #34 and #35 and the many generous supporters - it has been a great event. |
